Often minority urban communities and their citizens are misrepresented and sensationalized through negative imagery and reporting. Those speaking from outside such communities readily have their voice amplified, often shaping ideas and public opinion which may have detrimental impacts upon such marginalized groups, including invisibility. This is especially true regarding negativity and stereotyping in the media surrounding people of the Muslim faith in the USA. Through active participation in formulating their own representations and by utilizing their voice, Muslim communities are able to challenge such negative portrayals.

- to introduce a resource for outreach and education
- to amplify the personal narratives of the communities,especially those excluded by mainstream media outlets
- to convey the stories, photos and information in formats that allow for healing, community building, and that not only inspire justice, but bring about positive social change
- to highlight and create dialogue around issues that the communities face
- to demonstrate a community in action
- to strengthen and promulgate the power within the various Muslim communities
- to archive the community's history
